Reformed Churchmen

We are Confessional Calvinists and a Prayer Book Church-people. In 2012, we remembered the 350th anniversary of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer; also, we remembered the 450th anniversary of John Jewel's sober, scholarly, and Reformed "An Apology of the Church of England." In 2013, we remembered the publication of the "Heidelberg Catechism" and the influence of Reformed theologians in England, including Heinrich Bullinger's Decades. For 2014: Tyndale's NT translation. For 2015, John Roger, Rowland Taylor and Bishop John Hooper's martyrdom, burned at the stakes. Books of the month. Mr. (Bp.) Salmon's Statement from Nashotah House Re: Ms. Schori

"Mr. (Bp.) Salmon"? He's spent 54 years serving God, the Church, and his fellow man. He's brought countless people to faith. He has refused to give up on TEC, and has resolutely and tirelessly continued working to try to heal the rifts, despite the nastiness thoughtless people continue to hurl at him as a result, and despite the fact that PB - the same one he's invited to preach - tried to depose him for his efforts. He didn't have to take this all on himself; he could very easily have passed the buck and let the next dean deal with it, or hidden behind the board, or even tried to share the decision with those board members who agree with him, but he did none of those things. Instead, he chose to stand as the sole target of the cowardly internet trolls who can't even be bothered to contact him to discuss their concerns - and for those who have contacted him, he has replied to every nasty phone call, letter, and email with unshakeable grace and kindness. And you call him "Mr. (Bp.) Salmon"? Impressive.

(1) You are entirely ignorant about my background. (2) I am entirely ignorant about your background. (3) As such, "CS" the brave, the courage, the mighty and the faceless "troll," here what you don't get it. Ready, Lad? I don't accept episcopacy in most sections of the church. Hence, "Mr." not just for him but 98% of Bishops. Lad, if you knew more about me, you'd understand there is a strong, strong Reformed and Presbyterian streak. (4) I call Canterbury "Mr." Welby, for example. (5) As for Robert (Munday) and Ed (Salmon), it's their fight, not mine. (6) Does this help with your manifest ignorance? Next time, use your name sweetheart and stop being a coward.

And one further and closing note to our courageous "troll," henceforth and until such time expires as is deemed warranted, this scribe shall refer to all bishops, seminary presidents, professors and others as "Mr." or "Mrs." It levels the pride and, often (not always), snobbery. Yet, we must...as the apostles taught us...honor all men and women. How do we do both? We'll use Mr. __________ (Credentials stated). So, for example, it would be Mr. Salmon (Bp.), Mr. Welby (Canterbury). Again, this shall be ruthlessly applied reaching two verdicts: (1) the utterly needed message of leveling and humility and (2) the needed recognition. Next time, Mr. Courageous "CS," be a Marine and affix your name. Otherwise, you'll be Mr. Bye, Bye. We're old Marines here and we don't abide some things.

I honestly did not mean to imply that you are a troll (cowardly or otherwise). Upon rereading my comment, I can see that was not clear. I am truly sorry for having given offense on that score.

Thank you. Quick and painless. No problem. Yet, the protocol, on my end, remains. And, there was no intended disrespect to Mr. (Bp) Salmon by the title. It might appear that way to an Episcopalian (which I've been and still am). The 2-fold effort, Mr. (Creds) Name, or, put another ways, Mr. Name (Creds), attempts to do both things: (1) level all pride and, yet, (2) give recognition. Actually, all this Nashotah-stuff is outside my orbit, but it is odd to watch, record, and ponder. Regards. Let the reading continue for all.
